Win over Colts could be the spark that ignites a Jaguars turnaround

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It kind of felt like this team really needed something to fall its way and maybe this was just what the Jaguars needed. They did have a deep hole to dig themselves out of but it has been done before.

Now, the Jaguars have just a 0.95% chance of making the playoffs after Sunday’s 37-34 win over the Colts.

As for some more numbers, 105 teams have started 0-4 since 1990.

Only one made playoffs: the 1992 Chargers.

Stan Humphries was the quarterback and he is actually in the Chargers Hall of Fame. If you don’t know that name, Humphries was a sixth-round draft pick out of Northeast Louisiana. His backup quarterback there in Monroe, Louisiana was none other than Doug Pederson.

That was a random trip down memory lane but it all comes back to this — it ain’t over until it’s over.

Don’t get me wrong, this team still has problems. They gave up 24 points in the fourth quarter alone. That’s bad. But this is still the same team that I expected to win a bunch of games this season. They just got a little lost along the way.

The Jaguars are 1-4 and that’s far from a spot to make a complete flip on the team’s direction. But they are in a similar position from where they were last year, one win and packing their bags to go to London. A coincidence, maybe. What if it’s destiny? I don’t know quite yet, but last year, that trip to London is where things turned around. I know fans hate it, but it is where the team flipped the switch and then won five straight games. All I’m saying is the Bears and Patriots are both very beatable teams. And if the Jags come back from London with a 3-4 record, the temperature around this team will be much better. They will be right back in the race for the AFC South and a playoff spot.

To get there, they need to keep the offense that showed up on the field against the Colts rolling and they need to find the defense that showed up the first two weeks of the season. That unit was stopping people. But keep Sunday’s Travon Walker because he was a game-wrecker, notching his first three-sack game. If the Jaguars can get those three pieces to fall in line, this is a team ready to go on a run. It’s just one win, but every streak starts with just one. Maybe this season isn’t flushed just yet or everything could be right back to the status quo next week.
