What to Plant March & April…. And some edible weeds.

Happy Autumn Green Thumbs!!

With a cool end to summer we can see the weather bringing us into what is undoubtedly going to be a nice cool start to Perth’s Autumn Season. we can see an array of new vegetables becoming available for planting.  With a full spectrum of herbs and vegetables and abundant greens available, we should be seeing some great harvests coming out of the summer heat.

Bring on the brassicas…

We can start sewing winter crops, but be mindful these guys are sensitive to the heat, so if you get some emerging take extra care on those hot days to keep them well hydrated and in the shade.

Edible weeds…

I have included 5 seasonal edible weeds, these are easy to grow in our climate and you can forage if you have a safe location. Edible weeds have a high nutritional value and are truly just misunderstood and undervalued plants. We use so much water to grow species of vegetables not overly suited to our climate, such as lettuce in summer, and all around us are these edible gems growing so easily we call them weeds. Let’s open our eyes to what’s around us provided by Gaia and look to eating and growing seasonal foods suited to Perth’s conditions, edible weeds fit this bill.
