On Sunday, Dec. 8, the 3-9 New York Jets head to Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium to play the 5-7 Miami Dolphins.
Before the season began, both teams were projected to compete for a playoff spot. In the New York Post’s week one NFL power rankings, Aaron Rodgers’ Jets were ranked the sixth best team in football while Tua Tagovailoa’s Dolphins sat comfortably at 11.
Coming into week 14, the Post dropped the Dolphins to 18 and the Jets all the way down to 27.
In week 13, Jeff Ulbrich’s Jets lost 26-21 to the Seattle Seahawks. They started strong and roared to a 14-0 first-quarter lead, which they held onto for three quarters. Unfortunately, Gang Green gave up ten points in the fourth to fall flat against their former quarterback, Geno Smith. This loss was their third in a row after a 31-6 blowout against the Cardinals and a 28-27 heartbreaker to the Colts.
The Dolphins dropped their most recent game against the Packers, 30-17. Although Tagovailoa had an incredible game completing 37-46 passes for 365 yards and two touchdowns, Mike MacDonald’s squad never held the lead against Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs.
