JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hurricane Helene is shaking up the high school football calendar.
Duval County became the first local school district in the area to cancel classes as the storm approaches. District superintendent Christopher Bernier and Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan made the announcement in a Tuesday afternoon press conference. Numerous Duval schools serve as shelters. Bernier said that since there is no school on Friday, then athletic contests aren’t permitted to happen.
The storm has already made several games move from their Friday spot on the calendar. Three games and counting have been moved and others are sure to follow. This story will be updated as the schedule evolves.
