Ryan Pellum, a former Oregon wide receiver who recently entered the transfer portal, has been arrested on charges of assault with use of a firearm.
The arrest occurred following an alleged pistol-whipping incident.
While Pellum was arrested in Springfield, near the school’s campus in Eugene, on Wednesday, the alleged incident occurred in Pellum’s hometown of Long Beach, California on Christmas Day.
The 19-year-old Pellum played one season at Oregon and appeared in one game before entering the portal after the season.
He was able to utilize his redshirt, so is still a freshman.
Pellum, whose given name is Ryan Taylor, is the nephew of Don Pellum, Oregon’s defensive coordinator and a former linebacker at the school.
Bail was posted for Pellum, according to The Oregonian.
He’s been accused of hitting the unidentified victim over the head with a 9mm gun and then firing two shots in the air.
The victim needed stitches, according to the report.
An extradition warrant had been issued by Long Beach Police on Tuesday, which led to Pellum’s arrest at his apartment in Springfield the next day.
A spokesman for Oregon declined comment, noting that the 5-foot-11 receiver was no longer attending the school.
Oregon lost its only game of the season, 41-21, to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals
At the time of the arrest, Taylor allegedly told police he was aware of the California warrant because he had received calls regarding it, but didn’t provide details.
He’s due back in court on Jan. 23.
