MILAN — Italy’s knowledge safety authority on Thursday blocked entry to the Chinese language AI utility DeepSeek to guard customers’ knowledge and introduced an investigation into the businesses behind the chatbot.
The authority, known as Garante, expressed dissatisfaction with DeepSeek’s response to its preliminary question about what private knowledge is collected, the place it’s saved and the way customers are notified.
“Opposite to the authority’s findings, the businesses declared that they don’t function in Italy, and that European laws doesn’t apply to them,’’ the assertion stated, noting that the app had been downloaded by thousands and thousands of individuals across the globe in only a few days.
DeepSeek’s new chatbot has raised the stakes within the AI know-how race, rattling markets and catching up with American generative AI leaders at a fraction of the price.
