News4JAX Varsity 4 Super 10

Rank, previous, School, Record, Classification

1. (1) Raines (5-0, Class 3A)

Week 6: beat Riverside, 62-40. This week: Off.

Glance: The Vikings are in the top spot for the second week in a row. They’ve had some issues on defense in wins over Trinity Christian and Raines, but the offense, headlined by QB Timothy Cole, is humming along. The Northwest Classic is always a good one.

2. (3) Nease (5-0, Class 6A)

Last week: beat Gainesville Buchholz, 20-17. This week: Off.

Glance: The Panthers have an argument for the top spot. Their body of work is the area’s most impressive and they have beaten St. Augustine and Buchholz in OT in back-to-back games. Coach Collin Drafts’ team is strong on both sides of the ball and may be the area’s best all-around team.

3. (2) Bradford (5-0, Class 2A)

Week 6: beat Keystone Heights, 40-0. This week: vs. Palatka (4-2), 7:30 p.m.

Glance: The Tornadoes drop a spot, through no fault of their own. They’re poised for another 10-0 regular season under coach Jamie Rodgers. District rival Palatka is up next.

4. (4) St. Augustine (4-1, Class 6A)

Week 6: beat Columbia, 27-6. This week: Off.

Glance: After an OT loss to Nease, the Yellow Jackets came back with a strong district win over the Tigers. They’re off this week before a district game against Clay in Week 8.

5. (5) Bolles (4-1, Class 2A)

Week 6: beat Baldwin, 35-0. This week: vs. Columbia (2-4), 7:30 p.m.

Glance: The Bulldogs pulled away from Baldwin on Monday night and look to get a bit of redemption against the Tigers after losing this game last year. The only loss is the No. 1 Raines in Week 1.

6. (7) Mandarin (3-2, Class 6A)

Week 6: Off, game postponed. This week: vs. Rockledge (3-1), 6:30 p.m.

Glance: The Mustangs saw their game against First Coast postponed due to the storm and now go into a difficult showdown against the Rock. Mandarin has been banged up but this week is a chance to get back in a groove.

7. (NR) Oakleaf (4-2, Class 6A)

Week 6: beat Fletcher, 40-12. This week: Off.

Glance: The Knights rejoin the Super 10 after a week out. They hammered Fletcher and ended a two-game slide, albeit, losses to very good teams in Bolles and Hawthorne. Oakleaf is off this week before a district game in Week 8 at First Coast.

8. (8) Baker County (3-1, Class 3A)

Week 6: Off, game postponed. This week: at Tallahassee Godby (4-2).

Glance: The Wildcats should finally play this week at Godby after seeing that game pushed back due to Helene. Baker County’s lone loss is a 13-7 game in Week 1 to No. 3 Bradford.

9. (9) Beachside (4-1, Class 5A)

Week 6: beat Menendez, 41-3. This week: at Tocoi Creek (4-1), Varsity 4 Game of the Week.

Glance: The Barracudas are a field goal away from an unbeaten start. They’ve got a mega showdown in Week 7 against the rival Toros, a team that they’ve lost both times against.

10. (7) Ponte Vedra (3-2, Class 5A)

Week 6: lost to Fleming Island, 31-29. This week: vs. Leesburg (4-1), Thursday.

Glance: The Bears did what they should have last week in crushing Orange Park. They’ve got what could be a tricky district opener against Tocoi Creek before an off week and then a brutal October with Nease, St. Augustine and Gainesville Buchholz over a three-week stretch.
