“U.S. Determine Skating can affirm that a number of members of our skating group have been sadly aboard American Airways Flight 5342, which collided with a helicopter yesterday night in Washington, D.C.,” the group stated. “These athletes, coaches, and members of the family have been returning house from the Nationwide Improvement Camp held at the side of the U.S. Determine Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas
“We’re devastated by this unspeakable tragedy and maintain the victims’ households intently in our hearts. We are going to proceed to observe the scenario and can launch extra info because it turns into obtainable.”

Russian determine skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who gained a pairs title on the 1994 world championships and competed on the Winter Olympics twice, have been on board the airplane as nicely, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov instructed reporters on Thursday.
“Sadly, we see that this unhappy info is being confirmed. There have been different fellow residents there. Dangerous information right this moment from Washington. We’re sorry and ship condolences to the households and associates who misplaced these of our fellow residents who died within the airplane crash,” he stated.
The Worldwide Skating Union stated it was “deeply shocked” over the incident.
