Bishop Kenny falls in state semifinals

The high school volleyball season began Monday.

Bishop Kenny’s volleyball quest for another state championship came up short on Thursday.

The Crusaders couldn’t slow down Hialeah Mater Lakes in a 3-0 loss in the Class 4A state semifinals on Thursday morning in Winter Haven. Kenny was in each game but endured a 25-21, 27-25, 25-21 loss that sends the Bears on to a Saturday final against perennial power Orlando Bishop Moore.

Kenny, a three-time state champ, including two under head coach Suzanne Winkler, ends its season at 23-7. The Crusaders were making their fourth state semifinal trip in the last five years including the state championship in 2020.
