Chiefs likely getting Marquise Brown for stretch run in huge boost

The Chiefs might be getting some receiver help.

Barring any setbacks, Kansas City plans to activate Marquise “Hollywood” Brown from injured reserve with intentions of playing him in Saturday’s game against the Texans, according to ESPN.

Brown hasn’t played a snap for the Chiefs this season after suffering a sternoclavicular shoulder joint injury during the team’s first preseason game in August.

The 27-year-old wideout was initially placed on IR and later opted for surgery.

“Disappointed, frustrated, and Sad was the first wave of emotions once I realized I would need surgery but that only lasted a day or so because Of my Faith in God [sic],” Brown posted on X at the time. “… Let’s go Chiefs!! See yall Soon.”

But after rehab and finally returning to practice last week, it appears Brown will get his shot with the Chiefs.

“He’s done a nice job,” head coach Andy Reid told reporters. “He’s been able to run and keep himself in running shape.”

Reid added there’s a “good chance” Brown is activated for Saturday’s tilt.

In March, Brown signed a one-year deal worth up to $11 million with the Chiefs after catching 51 passes for 574 yards for the Cardinals in 2023.

The 25th overall pick by the Ravens in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma, Brown had the best season of his career in 2021 with Baltimore, making 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns.

Brown will join a revamped receiving corps in Kansas City alongside DeAndre Hopkins, who was acquired from the Titans at the trade deadline, and rookie Xavier Worthy.
