College Football Playoff 2024 projections: SEC, Big Ten dominate my 12-team bracket

Hello, and welcome to my weekly College Football Playoff bracket. I’ll be updating every week based on new results. They are based solely on my own opinions and likely will differ from Austin Mock’s much smarter, scientifically based projections. Also, be sure to check out David Ubben’s Bubble Watch every Monday.

My five conference champions — Ohio State (Big Ten), Georgia (SEC), Miami (ACC), Utah (Big 12) and UNLV (G5) — remain the same as last week. The seeding, however, is more fluid, including Tennessee moving up two spots to No. 6 after its win at Oklahoma.

What we learned about the CFP in Week 4: Clemson, Utah emerge while USC tumbles

For one thing, it’s the first time I’ve given all my at-large berths to SEC (four) and Big Ten (three) teams. USC, despite the close loss at Michigan, moved in, and Kansas State, which got hammered by BYU, fell out. The Trojans’ potential for nonconference wins against both LSU and Notre Dame gives them a great shot to get in even if they miss the Big Ten title game.

In weeding through the potential resumes of Texas, Tennessee, Alabama and Ole Miss, it’s clear the committee could have its work cut out for it with the order if they’re all around 10-2. All could finish with multiple Top 25 — and perhaps even top 10 — wins.

UNLV remains my Group of 5 team for now, but Boise State will tempt me to flip them if the Broncos handle Washington State next week.
