News4JAX Varsity 4 Super 6 girls soccer rankings

Rank, previous, school, record, classification

1. (1) Creekside (14-0-1, Class 7A)

Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Bartram Trail, Beachside, Bishop Moore, Edgewood, Montverde, Nease, Oakleaf, Stanton.

Notable: The Knights have reinforced that they’re not just the area’s best team but have a claim as the country’s best. They handed powerhouse Montverde a 2-0 loss in the Girls Soccer Showcase last week, and rose to No. 2 in the national rankings by MaxPreps. Montverde is the defending Class 3A state champ and one of the country’s best teams every year. Creekside also beat a quality Orlando Bishop Moore. The Knights, led by a wicked defense and Iowa commit keeper Hailey Smith, have not allowed a goal since Dec. 19 in a 2-1 win over Ponte Vedra. They’ve allowed just three goals all season.

2. (3) Bartram Trail (11-1-4, Class 6A)

Quality wins: Beachside, Chiles, Episcopal, Fleming Island, Fletcher, P.K. Yonge, St. Johns CD, Stanton.

Notable: The Bears beat Stanton 3-0 in their lone game since our last Super 6. They’re the heavy favorites to win District 3-6A. Brooke Gosse and Ali Fletcher are up to a combined 24 goals for the Bears. Their lone loss is to Creekside.

3. (2) Ponte Vedra (10-3-2, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Bishop Moore, Chiles, Fleming Island, Navarre, Niceville, Stanton, St. Johns Country Day, Tocoi Creek.

Notable: The Sharks had a tough go at the Girls Soccer Showcase, losing to host Montverde (4-1) and North Fort Myers (4-0). The loss to Montverde wasn’t that bad; it seems like every team loses to Montverde. But North Fort Myers is a team that Ponte Vedra will likely see again if it is going to defend its Class 5A state title. The Sharks are ranked 20th nationally and Fort Myers is 19th.

4. (4) St. Johns Country Day (14-3-1, Class 1A)

Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Fletcher, Lakeland Christian, Lakewood Ranch, Niceville, Oakleaf, P.K. Yonge, Stanton.

Notable: The Spartans had two quality wins since our last Super 6, a 2-0 win over Bolles and a 3-0 win over Lakeland Christian. That latter victory gives St. Johns two wins over the four-time defending state champion. The Spartans aren’t in the Vikings class anymore but this give St. Johns some serious momentum for its state title quest. St. Johns last won a crown in 2021. Calli Berrang, Reygan Rogero, Victoria Sarka and Cece Nowicki have combined for 22 goals.

5. (5) Fletcher (13-2-1, Class 6A)

Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Bolles, Flagler Palm Coast, Oakleaf, Sandalwood, Stanton (twice).

Notable: The Senators haven’t played since a 5-1 win over Stanton in the Gateway final on Jan. 10. They’re back in action on Tuesday in the District 2-6A tournament against First Coast. Fletcher should cruise in the district tournament. Emma McMurray, Anastasia Virata and Alexandria Mai are leading the Senators.

6. (6) Bishop Kenny (11-2-2, Class 4A)

Quality wins: Beachside, Bolles, Buchholz, Episcopal, Fernandina Beach, Stanton.

Notable: The Crusaders finish the regular season in the Super 6, winning their lone match since our last rankings in a 2-0 game against Beachside. They’re off until the District 2-4A semis on Tuesday, and will likely face Baker County in the Jan. 29 final. Reilly Clarke (13 goals) and Emma Baggett (9 goals) lead Kenny in goal scoring.
