JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – You ever feel like a broken record? Like you’re having deja vu over and over and over again? I wish this was just deja vu, but the Jaguars just keep losing games.
Sunday, the Jags offense scored once. One touchdown in a 12-7 loss to the Vikings that leaves the Jaguars 2-8. That is it. All of it. Total. That is a reflection of Doug Pederson.
Let’s flash back to when Pederson was hired. It feels like such a long time ago but he said, “Calling plays. That’s something I pride myself in. I will say right now that I want to call the plays. I want to put myself in a position to help this football team …”
That feels like such a long time ago.
Fast forward to now and Jacksonville’s offense is hopeless and Pederson isn’t even calling the plays. Those powerful quotes by Pederson when he was hired feel like such a long time ago. Almost as long as the last time the Jags offense looked like it was clicking. Now, every time we ask questions about the offense, it is like a broken record. There are words like be better, and we just got to execute. Those are all nice ways to say we don’t want to throw the guys who are messing up under the bus. That’s fine. But then Pederson is asked about what happened on a play late in the game and his response was curt.
“I’m not going to go through the details of the play because you guys wouldn’t figure it out,” he said.
I’ve got news for you, Coach. It doesn’t look like you’ve got it figured out either. Or should we check the scoreboard again? Seven points and Pederson wants to throw shade and say we can’t figure something out. The Jaguars scored less points than Phillip Rivers has kids. He has 10 kids. Pederson needs to go back to the drawing board and try to figure things out himself. How about he figure out how to get Brian Thomas Jr. involved in the offense? Over the last two weeks, Thomas has seven targets combined. That should be a crime.
Miss me with the ‘we wouldn’t figure it out stuff’ if you haven’t figured out how to win more than more than five of your last 18 games. Yes, in the last year the Jaguars are 5-13. Seems like Pederson has some stuff to figure out himself.
Or Shad Khan could finally listen to everyone and pull the plug. I know it has got to feel like deja vu and hearing it is time for a fresh start. But time and time again there have been soft rebuilds, one guy here, one guy there to keep the continuity. But it is time to break the broken record and hit the reset button. It is clear every Sunday. Or maybe it’s like Doug said and Shad just can’t figure it out.
