Ex-Texas receiver Johntay Cook takes shot at Quinn Ewers over $6M NIL offer

Ex-Texas receiver Johntay Cook appears to not like his former quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Cook took a shot at Ewers underneath an X post reporting that the Longhorns starting quarterback has received a $6 million NIL offer to return to college next season.

“Wasting y’all money [for real],” Cook allegedly wrote in what appears to be a deleted tweet, as captured Tuesday by On3.

Cook disappointed in two years for Texas, tallying 273 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He notched eight catches for 137 yards and two scores this season.

He spent most of his time with the Longhorns catching passes from Arch Manning as a reserve wide receiver for a loaded offense filled with playmakers.

The now-Washington receiver also retweeted a post on X that said “6 million for any qb in college is a waste of money.”

He appeared to try to walk back his comments later by responding to a post mentioning Ewers going to the NFL despite the reported massive offer.

“My whole point,” Cook tweeted with an emoji.

Ewers has seen his draft stock tank in 2024, as he was once expected to be a first-round pick in the NFL draft but is no longer considered among the top quarterbacks in the class.

With the reported $6 million offer from another school, it’s possible he now could return to college as boosters throw around massive checks to keep kids in school.

While battling injuries, Ewers has tallied 2,867 passing yards and 26 touchdowns this season.

Many clamored for Manning, his famous backup, to get more playing time as Ewers struggled sporadically throughout the season.

Ewers really sputtered in October when Texas lost to Georgia, 30-15, and nearly lost to then-unranked Vanderbilt.

He was sacked nine times in those two games, throwing for five touchdowns and three interceptions.

The message from Cook should prove to be plenty of motivation for Ewers before Wednesday’s Peach Bowl matchup against Arizona State in the College Football Playoff.
