The opening round of the high school volleyball playoffs is in the books and nine area programs are moving on.
Reigning state champion Middleburg and perennial powers Bishop Kenny and Ponte Vedra all tallied first-round sweeps. The Broncos’ 3-0 of Tallahassee Leon set up a heavyweight clash in the Region 1-5A semifinals on Saturday with Super 6 No. 1 Beachside. The Barracudas swept Fleming Island in the opener and have won seven straight including a sweep of Middleburg on Oct. 2.
Powerhouse Bishop Kenny swept Suwannee and will host Pensacola on Saturday. Ponte Vedra also moved on with a sweep of Mosley. The Sharks travel to Tallahassee Chiles on Saturday.
