JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars are in a battle at the break with the Packers.
Trevor Lawrence’s first rushing touchdown of the season narrowed the gap and has Jacksonville within 13-10 on Sunday at EverBank Stadium. The offense sputtered for much of the opening half before Lawrence got it moving. Trailing 10-0 with no first downs with 6 minutes and 3 seconds to play before half, Lawrence ripped a bullet pass into the hands of Christian Kirk on a play that went for 33 yards. His next big strike went to Brian Thomas, an 18-yard play that went into the red zone.
Lawrence capped the drive with a 6-yard rushing touchdown, his first of the season. He led Jacksonville to a late scoring drive before the half, a 39-yard Cam Little field goal. Lawrence is 7 of 12 passing for 117 yards and an interception.
His counterpart, Jordan Love, has been far more efficient but appears to be laboring with a leg injury.
Jarrian Jones had his first NFL interception, breaking on a sideline route and jumping in front of Romeo Doubs for the pick. The interception itself was highlight-reel worthy but Jones’ footwork to stay in bounds was the defensive play of the half for Jacksonville.
The Jaguars couldn’t do anything with it.
Three plays later, Lawrence fired a ball into heavy traffic and had it picked off easily by Xavier McKinney. The Packers turned that into a Josh Jacobs touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
Injuries have stung the Jaguars. Right guard Brandon Scherff, receiver Gabe Davis and Ronald Darby, all starters, are questionable to return.
