Los Angeles Kings’ broadcaster Patrick O’Neal is one of the many residents of the city to become a victim of the area’s massive wildfires.
O’Neal shared a video of himself in front of the charred remains of his family’s home during the Kings’ pregame show on FanDuel Sports Network West before the team’s matchup against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.
“I want to send our prayers to the many who have suffered tremendous loss caused by these fires in Los Angeles County,’’ O’Neal said. “Thousands have lost their homes. Our family has been impacted as well as we have lost our family home in Malibu. I want to thank everyone for their support. Thankfully, our family is safe, the dogs too. However, many around the Southland continue to suffer.”
O’Neal, who has been part of Kings’ broadcasts for two decades, said his family was not harmed physically by the fires, which had killed at least 11 people as of Friday night.
He also noted the Kings’ efforts to raise funds for those in need in the community.
The Kings’ home game against the Calgary Flames was postponed on Wednesday.
“Our hearts are with the entire Los Angeles community,” the Kings said in a statement. “We appreciate the hard working first responders who are diligently working to contain the fire and protect our community. We appreciate the league’s support in keeping our fans, staff and players safe.”
The fires — which have killed at least 11 people — have had a great impacted Los Angeles’ sports scene, as Lakers head coach JJ Redick said his rental home was destroyed by the fires.
Monday night’s NFL wild ward game between the Rams and Vikings, scheduled to have been played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif, will be moved to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ, home of the Arizona Cardinals.
The Lakers have postponed two games, including a clash with the Spurs scheduled for Saturday night. The Clippers also had a home game pushed back.
