Middleburg sweeps No. 2 BK to stay on top of rankings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4JAX Varsity 4 Super 6 high school volleyball rankings will be published each Wednesday during the regular season. Records are through Oct. 1 games.

1. (1) Middleburg (14-3, Class 5A)

Notable win: Bishop Kenny, Bob Jones (Ala.), Fleming Island, Jackson Academy (Miss.), Ponte Vedra, Providence, Timber Creek, Trinity Christian.

Glance: The Broncos won their lone match since our last Super 6, and it was a big one. Middleburg swept No. 2 Bishop Kenny on Tuesday night. They’ve got Beachside up next on Wednesday and Chiles next Tuesday night. They’ve been the unquestioned No. 1 team all season long. Brooke Forkum (210, kills) and Camden Rahn (185 kills) are leading the way.

2. (2) Bishop Kenny (13-4, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Beachside, Creekside, Fleming Island, Gainesville, Providence, Wesley Chapel, Windermere.

Glance: The Crusaders were swept by No. 1 Middleburg since our last Super 6, but that’s not a bad loss. Ponte Vedra on Thursday and Bolles next Tuesday are the two matches before our Super 6. Olivia Ryno (173 kills) and Sofia Muino (143 kills) lead Kenny.

3. (3) Beachside (13-3, Class 5A)

Notable wins: Bolles, Creekside, Flagler Palm Coast, Harvest. New Smyrna Beach, Ponte Vedra, Providence, Trinity Christian.

Glance: The Barracudas beat Matanzas and Harvest since our last Super 6. No. 1 Middleburg is up next on Wednesday followed by St. Augustine on Thursday and Tocoi Creek next Tuesday. Adriana Jeanpierre (219 kills) surpassed the 200-kill mark since our last Super 6 and Mollie VanDeusen (128 kills) eclipsed the 100-kill barrier.

4. (4) Ponte Vedra (12-3, Class 5A)

Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Beachside, Bolles, Episcopal, Harvest, Jupiter, Providence, Tocoi Creek, Trinity Christian.

Glance: It’s seven straight wins for the Sharks, who swept Tocoi Creek since our last Super 6. Their only losses are to Middleburg, Chiles and Beachside. Bishop Kenny is up next on Thursday followed by Trinity Christian next Monday. Leah Grall (110 kills) and Railey Player (89 kills) lead a balanced Ponte Vedra attack.

5. (5) Fletcher (13-1, Class 6A)

Notable wins: Atlantic Coast, Bartram Trail, Episcopal, Fleming Island, Navarre, St. Augustine.

Glance: The Senators have won six in a row after a 3-2 loss to Mandarin. Harvest is up next on Thursday before Fletcher dives into the Gateway Conference tournament next week. The Senators should get another shot at Mandarin there.

T6. (T6) Creekside (13-4, Class 7A)

Notable wins: Atlantic Coast, Bartram Trail (twice), Bishop Snyder, Bolles, Fleming Island (twice), New Smyrna Beach, Orange Park, Tocoi Creek.

Glance: The Knights swept Bartram Trail since our last Super 6, but it’s been a quiet time for Creekside, like most area teams during the Hurricane Helene interruption.

T6. (T6) Fleming Island (13-6, Class 5A)

Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Bishop Snyder, Harvest, Mandarin, New Smyrna Beach, Orange Park, Providence, Santa Fe, Tocoi Creek

Glance A 3-1 over Providence is the only match since our last Super 6. They’ve got once-ranked Bolles next on Wednesday. Lillie Eason has 136 kills and Emily Topp follows at 131.
