WASHINGTON — The Nationwide Hockey League Gamers’ Affiliation and Skilled Hockey Gamers’ Affiliation are affiliating with the AFL-CIO and becoming a member of the labor group’s sports activities council, they introduced Monday.
Their membership brings the variety of unions concerned within the AFL-CIO, the largest labor federation within the U.S., to 63, representing greater than 15 million staff. It comes as collective bargaining talks are ongoing at a number of ranges of the game.
“Whether or not our work is on the rink, within the classroom or on the manufacturing facility ground, each employee deserves a voice on the job and the facility that comes with union membership,” AFL-CIO president Liz Shuler mentioned. “We’re thrilled to welcome the NHLPA and the PHPA into the federation and our Sports activities Council, and we look ahead to supporting their work to make sure sturdy union contracts, truthful wages, protected working situations {and professional} improvement alternatives for skilled hockey gamers.”
The NHLPA represents roughly 750 gamers throughout 32 groups, whereas the PHPA has 1,800 members within the American Hockey League and ECHL.
