The San Francisco 49ers’ hard-hitting defensive end Nick Bosa flaunted a “Make America Great Again” hat following the team’s win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football just days ahead of the 2024 election.
NBC sideline reporter Melissa Stark was interviewing quarterback Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle, and running back Isaac Guerendo when Bosa, 27, jumped in to show his support for former president Trump.
The star pass rusher popped up behind Purdy and, not saying a word, pointed to his white and gold MAGA cap before running off camera.
“Alright, Nick Bosa with a message there,” Stark said, laughing off the interruption while his teammates smirked and giggled over the stunt.
His teammates did not comment on the stunt.
Speaking at the podium after the game, Bosa was asked about showing off the hat and whether it was a “political statement” ahead of the Nov. 5 election.
“I’m not gonna talk too much about it, but I think it’s an important time,” Bosa said.
He appears to be among the few active NFL players supporting a presidential candidate this election season, alongside Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who endorsed Trump earlier this year.
Bosa has never been shy of showing his support for the 45th President.
The former Ohio State defensive end was picked second overall by the 49ers in 2019 and received a congratulatory shout-out from then-President Trump, telling him to “always stay true to yourself.”
“Big Talent! San Francisco will embrace you but most importantly, always stay true to yourself. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump posted on X — formally Twitter.
However, before being drafted, the four-time pro bowler said he was forced to delete some tweets expressing his support for President Trump.
“I had to,” he told ESPN. “There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco.”
Among his deleted tweets were statements in which he called former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick a “clown” for kneeling during the national anthem.
Bosa has also been quoted as saying that he was a “big fan” of the former commander-in-chief while Trump was running for office in the 2016 presidential election, according to SFGate.
“Yes, big fan,” Bosa said at the time, according to the outlet. “He brings a charisma that no other candidate has [had] in my lifetime.”
Bosa, a Fort Lauderdale native, tweeted, “Love this man,” while retweeting a video of Trump’s weekly address.
He has also posted a photo of himself giving the thumbs up next to a cardboard cutout of Trump.
Earlier this year, the NFL star was also seen posing for a photo with Trump at a UFC event alongside Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and defensive end Sam Hubbard.
During Sunday night’s 30-24 victory over the Cowboys, he racked up three tackles, a sack, and three QB hits.
The 2022 Defensive Player of the Year now has 4.5 sacks in the 2024 season.
