An American Airways flight carrying dozens of passengers has collided with a navy helicopter because it approached Washington DC’s Ronald Reagan Nationwide Airport.
The airplane then crashed into the Potomac River, officers stated, and boats and divers are looking out the water for survivors.
The Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet – carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew members – collided with the helicopter because it was approaching the runway at round 21:00 EST (02:00 GMT) on Wednesday.
The airplane was coming from Wichita, Kansas, in line with the airline.
The crashed airplane has cut up in half within the Potomac River with boats and divers now looking for folks, US media experiences say.
Three US military troopers had been onboard the Black Hawk navy helicopter that collided with the jet, a defence official stated.
The helicopter had taken off from Fort Belvoir in Virginia.
US President Donald Trump stated he had been “absolutely briefed on the horrible accident”.
“Thanks for the unimaginable work being achieved by our first responders. I’m monitoring the scenario and can present extra particulars as they come up,” he stated in a press release.
Takeoffs and landings have been halted on the airport as emergency personnel reply to the incident, the airport wrote in a submit on X.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated it was conducting an investigation.
