JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A busy Thursday night of high school football, capped with a little bit of history.
Top-ranked Raines completed its first perfect regular season since 1997 with a 48-0 blowout of Atlantic Coast. The Vikings (9-0) last ran the table during that ‘97 campaign under head coach Welton Coffey. Raines went 15-0 and won the first FHSAA state championship in Duval County Public Schools history.
This time, it’s head coach Donovan Masline and the high-powered offense led by Timothy Cole that is carrying Raines. The Vikings are the top seed in Region 1-3A when the state playoffs start the week of Nov. 11. Vikings offensive lineman Solomon Thomas remained out with an injury but received his Under Armour All-American jersey during a presentation at halftime. Thomas is the first five-star recruit in Raines history.
Third-ranked St. Augustine pulled away from No. 6 Mandarin for a 38-26 win to put a bow on an 8-1 regular season. The Yellow Jackets and Mustangs are both off in Week 12 as they prep for the state playoffs.
St. Augustine will be the No. 1 seed in Region 1-4A when the playoffs begin on Nov. 15. Mandarin is likely the No. 4 or 5 seed in Region 1-6A.
Mandarin players Drake Stubbs and Jaime Ffrench were honored with their jerseys from the Navy All-American Bowl before the game. Stubbs and Ffrench are both rated as five-star players by Rivals.
Parker ended its season with a .500 record as Tony Kennedy and the Braves walloped Sandalwood 42-0. The loss extended the Saints’ area-high losing streak to 20 games. The Braves (5-5) finished in a three-way tie in District 4-3A with Bishop Kenny and Menendez but are third among those three teams in the rankings points used to break the tie. Kennedy entered the game with 27 total touchdowns and added several more in the season finale.
