Shopify has taken down a website marketed by rapper Ye, previously often known as Kanye West, that bought swastika t-shirts.
The rapper ran an commercial on Sunday throughout the Tremendous Bowl that directed viewers to go to Yeezy.com, the place it promoted a single product — a $20 t-shirt with a black swastika. The positioning was on-line till Tuesday morning.
A Shopify spokesperson stated the Canadian e-commerce firm took the positioning down for violating its phrases of service. The storefront has been changed with an error message that reads, “This retailer is unavailable.”
“This service provider didn’t have interaction in genuine commerce practices and violated our phrases so we eliminated them from Shopify,” the spokesperson stated in a press release.
Shopify President Harley Finkelstein advised CNBC’s “Squawk on the Road” on Tuesday that the web site’s homeowners “had a whole day” to show they weren’t violating the corporate’s insurance policies, “which didn’t occur.”
“The second we realized this was not truly an actual commerce follow, they weren’t truly participating in genuine commerce, we pulled it down,” Finkelstein stated.
Finkelstein referred to as the positioning, which beforehand bought a broader collection of t-shirts, pants and jackets, “disappointing.”
“I am a proud Jewish entrepreneur,” Finkelstein advised CNBC’s Sara Eisen. “I am a proud Jewish neighborhood member. You and I’ve talked about this prior to now, that it is a massive a part of my identification. So clearly I am devastated by that.”
