Tyreek Hill ‘opening the door’ Dolphins exit with eye-opening comments

Tyreek Hill sounded like a man on his way out of South Florida.

The Dolphins star indicated that he wanted out of Miami following the team’s season-ending loss to the Jets on Sunday in shocking comments to reporters where he said he was “opening the door.”

“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs, man. So I just got to do what’s best for me and my family,” Hill started to say. “If that’s here or wherever the case may be, I’m finna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day I gotta do what’s best for my career because I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”

When asked if he had been thinking about leaving the Dolphins, Hill began to walk away from the scrum of reporters before appearing to say, “Yes.”

Following the wild few minutes of meeting with the media, the 30-year-old Hill posted what appeared to be a goodbye message to Dolphins fans on his X account later that night.

“Love fin nation blessing yall opened doors for the Hill family forever nothing, but respect and love,” he wrote.

Hill remains under contract for the Dolphins for at least one more year, but there is an out following the 2025 season and his salary could make him a tough player to trade if Miami were to go that route.

He will count $28.7 million against the cap next season.

All of this comes on the heels of a frustrating season for Hill in Miami this year where he failed to reach the 1,000-receiving-yard mark for the first time since 2019 with the Chiefs and recorded the fewest yards per game since his rookie season in 2016.

Hill finished the year with 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns, also tying a career low.

The Dolphins (8-9) also missed out on the playoffs this season for the first time under head coach Mike McDaniel, seemingly adding to the frustration of Hill.

His potential departure would mark the second time Hill has contentiously left a team after requesting a trade out of Kansas City when a contract extension was never able to be worked out in 2022.

The Dolphins traded a haul of draft picks for Hill that year and gave him a four-year, $120 million extension.

The star wide receiver revealed on Sunday after the loss that he had been dealing with a wrist issue throughout the season and that he was pulled from the loss to the Jets after it became clear that Denver would defeat the Chiefs to end any postseason hopes for Miami.
