Yankees sign ex-Met Dom Smith to minor league deal

Dom Smith, the former first-round pick of the Mets, has agreed to a minor league deal with the Yankees, The Post confirmed.

Smith, 29, played in 93 games in the majors last season, split between the Reds and Red Sox. He had a .691 OPS.

The lefty-swinging Smith has played first base exclusively the past three seasons after previously spending time in the outfield.

The Yankees recently signed right-handed hitting Paul Goldschmidt to a one-year, $12.5 million deal to take over at first for Anthony Rizzo, who battled injuries throughout his time with the Yankees and has yet to find a new home.

Smith played six seasons with the Mets and never lived up to expectations as the 11th overall pick in 2013.

His best season came in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, when he hit 10 homers in 50 games.

Smith’s signing by the Yankees was first reported by the YES Network.
